Two – Glare back at you – (this one can go several ways,  they are guilty but want to defend what they did, or angry that you confronted them, but probably they did it and or mad because they got caught.)

Third – look at you and deny it.  Depending upon the person, you will know if they did not do it.

Are people watching you? Do they judge you by what you do and say?  It is hard to get through a day without finding something you said or did that you would like to rewind and do differently. 

But as a Christian you can count on people watching you to see if you stumble.  Judging your actions to see if you practice what you preach. 

So, lets start off simple, yes I am probably going to disappoint some.  Yes I will probably do things that don’t measure up in the eyes of others.  But as a Christian, I plan on falling forward not backward.  When I get up I will seek his forgiveness and try not to do it again.

I will try to follow Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in thy sight , Oh Lord my rock and my redeemer.

Others are watching, make them want to ask you why you are different, then make your move. Tell them about Jesus.

This has been a very tough week, both physically and spiritually.  I have seen so many people compromise God’s ways for a quick buck, a rational justification of why they gave up their integrity for a quick gain.

Watching people support a bad decision is heart breaking.  Yes I can challenge their action, but I have found people tend to use any questions of their actions as stones to build the foundation of their action.  If they find enough stones of justification, they can build themselves a pretty tall wall to hide behind.

So, what do you do when this happens?  I have learned that I can confront the decision and will most likely loose.  I can also pray for God to intervene, sometimes silence is the best argument.  God’s voice inside one’s heart and soul tends to be much louder and effective than my argument.

But, I still have to live within my soul, and that is where this song kept coming up.  I found myself calling out this song, especially the line “Nothing in my hands I bring, simply to thy cross I cling”.

Dealing with others can be a storm, so, find the Rock of Ages and gain the high ground.
The song Rock of ages was written in 1763 By Rev Toplady. Toplady was traveling along a gorge in Burrington, Combe, England when he was caught in a storm. He found shelter in a gap in the gorge and wrote the opening lyrics on a playing card.

What did I forget? I hate getting to a job and find I forgot something.  Some time ago I found myself walking through the house and saying, Ok God what did I forget?  It is interesting how he will quietly guide my steps to something I forgot to pack.

I have found that I misplace things, like my wallet.  This makes my wife crazy, but when I find something not where I left it or someplace I have forgotten, I find myself asking God where did I put that and it is amazing how he guides me to it.

So, If God will help you with such little things why not just keep talking to him as you go through the day, it is amazing how much help he is in getting through the day.
Oh, one thing to remember, you have to listen.

I hate Pop Ups, whether they are on my computer or now as they show up on TV.  Nothing is more aggravating than these dumb adds and promotions that show up when you are trying to do something.

I decided to take this subject to prayer. I was going to have a discussion with God about “POP UPS”
I was in my office looking out the window and started to pray about the pop ups.  Then a small chipmunk popped up out of the bushes in front of my window and just stared at me. A few minutes later, a small bird popped up and decided to take a bath in the bird bath.  For the next several days, things of God’s creation just popped up in my view.

So, I have come to the conclusion God created Pop Ups. The enemy loves to copy his words so, now when I see pop ups on my computer or TV I just laugh and remember they are just cheap copies of a greater work.

When something begins to aggravate you ask God to help you look with his eyes.  Kind of like how the world looked after you were born again.

Why are you stopping?  So many people are concerned about the journey that they constantly stop and whine.  God expects us to go all the way to the finish.   Matthew 25 :23 “ His master replied Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.  Come and share your master’s joy.

God is seeking people of honor and faith that will finish well.  We have enough who start and whine because the road is tough.  When you feel you want to sit and whine,  I suggest you go watch the movie Soul Surfer.  Bethany Hamilton had her journey interrupted by a shark biting off her arm. She got up and got back on her surf board.  So, if it is hard journey, because you have to get out of bed, you have to do things that are tough, then just quit whining and do what you are called to do.

Christ took a walk up a hill that few of us could make, so look around you, you are’nt carrying a cross on your back, no one has spent the day beating the flesh off of you.  So get up and go all the way to his side.

Politicians and pundits are on every channel of the TV and radio.  Each is spinning their position and the view that they want you to remember.  The clouds of babble make it hard to see that home so far away.

We need to pray for a clearing of the clouds,  we need to be able to see and hear the truth.  There are many that wish to distract you right now. 

If this nation is to be one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all, then you must hear stand up and let your voice be heard. 

Wake up, please don’t tell me there is nothing you can do.  Begin with prayer and then go stand with those that believe that this country was founded on God’s values,  Not Christian, not Jewish but God’s values.

I admire Noah, he knew what God wanted him to do and he did it. I wonder if I would have the strength to do what God asked him to do?  But, then God knows us and only asks us to do what he wants us to do.

So, even if it is something small, do it anyway.  There are many things which I have done because I knew that it was what God wanted me to do, and it was a struggle to do it.  I have a habit of getting in my own way.  I know none of you have that problem but I do.

Listen carefully and be sure it is God’s will and not yours.  Yes you will have doubts,  I know I have often wondered why God let Noah and company off of the ark.  Think about what he have done with what he gave us.

If you know the history of this song, it is hard not to imagine Horatio Spafford standing on a ship passing the place where he lost his 4 daughters.  In the midst of that tragic lost he was able to share his heart with God and testify –“ Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well, it is well, with my soul”

Find a quiet place today,  listen to Horatio’s testimony in this song.  Let God’s peace fill you today.  Imagine what it took to review the losses in his life and still be able to say It is well with my soul.

If you want to start a fight, ask someone what they believe in.  People are very sensitive about being asked such a question.  If you ask it, you will get all sorts of interesting defense statements.  You may find such a question causes people to get angry.  WHY?

Most people don’t seem to believe in much of anything, they love sports, or games or shopping or all sorts of momentary passions.

I have muddled about what do I believe and have distilled it down to God, Country and family. 
God first, because without him, nothing else matters.

Country, because I believe in what the country was founded on and it allows me to believe in my God without question.

Family, because they are those I have chosen to stand with and share my beliefs.  My family is not limited by blood lines, but by what we have chosen to share and believe in.

Maybe this isn’t important to you today, but it may become very important soon.
Figure out what you believe in, will it stand the test of confrontation? I know God will.

Have you ever been involved in a family business?  Normally, they start off with one person and an idea. The idea is developed and grows it becomes successful and is accepted.  As others come along some grasp the idea and  grow with it.  But then there are others who come along and sort of but in, but they want to change things, they like to do it their own way and they make changes or run off and start a different business using what they have learned.  In some cases, they will take people away from the original business converting them to their way of doing business.  So, the original family business is changed.

How many times have you seen a farm that has prospered and provided for a family suddenly chopped up when the founder dies, and the heirs sell off their inheritance.

Ok, so how many times have you seen Jesus family, betray him, start their own versions of his teachings. How many have perverted his teaching to justify their actions and desires. 
This is a tough one, but who do you honor Jesus or yourself?

It is time; Cry out to Jesus, I am part of your family, help me honor your teaching, let me put my desires aside.

Seeking God or just another mountain top high? Sometimes we are so hungry for his presence we find ourselves at concerts, teachings and churches, just looking for a hint of his presence. Sometimes we find ourselves looking in all the wrong places.  Now the hard part stop!

Running from event to event is not an answer,  hiding and lamenting because you are disappointed by the way people act is not an answer.

This is when it is time to be quiet and listen, begin with his word, move in to praise.  Praise is just a call to the Lord, like a child's call – Father Come get me, I am lost. 

Come simply into his presence with praise and an open heart.

How many times have you said, “ I don’t understand you”.  Learning to trust his ways and not yours is tough.  Watching how people react to situations tells you a lot.  Do they think about others or just themselves? Watch for the servants hearts.  Watch the little things, will they make a way to help others or just focus on their own needs.  When they are under pressure how do they react?

God’s ways are sometimes difficult to understand, when we filter them through our experiences.  I am always struck by the way Jesus recruited people.  Think about it, when he asked them to leave what they were doing and come with him, I think we miss that he was also asking them to leave how they did things and learn his way.

It can be difficult but it is worth it, they learning his ways instead of justifying your past experiences.

Who do you share God with? About a year ago, we adopted to Boston Terriers that had been rescued. One of them is Sonny.  Sonny is about three years old and just loves to be with you.  Each evening Sonny will come and just look up, waiting.  Once you have looked in his eyes it does not matter how tired you are, it is time for Sonny’s walk.

So, Sonny and I go for a walk, and Sonny and I have enjoyed some of the most indescribable sunsets, beautiful evening skys and just a quiet time to pray and talk with God.  Sonny is the best prayer partner, he is always ready to go walk and pray.

It is amazing how just that time with God and Sonny can refresh the soul.
Find some time to take a walk, and listen, his voice is very clear when you listen.

If you could walk in the garden with him, what would you ask him?

This one was written in 1912, by Charles Austin Miles. He recounts the following:
“One day in March, 1912, I was seated in the dark room, where I kept my photographic equipment and organ. I drew my Bible toward me; it opened at my favorite chapter, John 20-whether by chance or inspiration let each reader decide. That meeting of Jesus and Mary had lost none of its power to charm.

As I read it that day, I seemed to be part of the scene. I became a silent witness to that dramatic moment in Mary's life, when she knelt before her Lord, and cried, "Rabboni!"

My hands were resting on the Bible while I stared at the light blue wall. As the light faded, I seemed to be standing at the entrance of a garden, looking down a gently winding path, shaded by olive branches. A woman in white, with head bowed, hand clasping her throat, as if to choke back her sobs, walked slowly into the shadows. It was Mary. As she came to the tomb, upon which she place her hand, she bent over to look in, and hurried away.

John, in flowing robe, appeared, looking at the tomb; then came Peter, who entered the tomb, followed slowly by John.

As they departed, Mary reappeared; leaning her head upon her arm at the tomb, she wept. Turning herself, she saw Jesus standing, so did I. I knew it was He. She knelt before Him, with arms outstretched and looking into His face cried "Rabboni!"

I awakened in full light, gripping the Bible, with muscles tense and nerves vibrating. Under the inspiration of this vision I wrote as quickly as the words could be formed the poem exactly as it has since appeared. That same evening I wrote the music.

I am like this because, and here comes the excuses, my dad was like this, my mother did this and it goes on.  I remember sitting with someone who was having some issues in their life,  in talking about it he kept saying well I am like this because my Dad was like this. 

After a couple of rounds of this excuse, I stopped him and said, we really need to be grateful that your Dad wasn’t an ax murderer.

The young man looked at me and said, “I would never do something like that”.

So, I asked him, then why repeat the sins of your father, no matter what they were, you don’t have to carry them on. 

When you ask God to forgive a sin, you also can choose to never be the same again.  Close the door on how you used to be and focus on how God wants you to be for the rest of your life.

Ever try being a shepherd?  Think about trying to keep a flock of sheep together, how well would you do?

Can you lead the flock? Will you tend their wounds when hurt?  Will you carry them when they cannot keep up?  When they get lost will you go after them? 

Thank you God that you are my shepherd, please let me be a better sheep.

Do you keep score? When someone does something do you whip out your little score book and make a note on what they did? When someone mentions someones name, is your first thought about the wrong they did?

It is hard to forget past wrongs, and there are a lot of scriptures about forgiving the sins of others but the reality is it is difficult. So begin slow, when someones name comes up that has wronged you, don’t say anything. 

After you win that struggle, try saying something good about them or just pray God’s grace flow through you, and pray for that person.  I know it isn’t easy but If God can forget our sins, then we can follow his example. 

Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
